BPS All Leaders Institute: Cara Mattaliano (Assist. Director, SPACE), Gabriel Arredondo (Recruitment and Yield Specialist, BU Wheelock), and Irene Dennison (Assoc. Director, BU/BPS partnerships) attended the Boston Public Schools’ All Leaders Institute (ALI) to promote the Dr. Carol Johnson District Leadership Fellowship and share information about BU Wheelock graduate programs.
SPACE Engagement
Intern Update: During their last week at BU Wheelock, Mariaelena, Raquel, and Adrian:
met with BU Wheelock’s new dean, Penny Bishop
finalized their book on demystifying college for middle-schoolers and their parents and guardians (visit this link to read the book)
Learning Experiences at the Earl Center
every Tuesday, the interns were at the Earl Center with Lynn Brown and Temperance Wu, where they heard from BU faculty and graduate students involved in education design research and developed their own design principles and projects, including:
hand-building and cutting acrylic via laser forge
analyzing the design and construction of office chairs
examining the BPS class schedules
critiquing the way design and making function within the fashion industry
Experience in an Office
on Wednesdays, the interns supported Brenda Gutierrez (Operations administrator, BU Wheelock) with her office tasks, learning office etiquette like working in groups, meeting deadlines, and managing time​.
End of Summer Internship Celebration- On Thursday, we were thrilled to celebrate our interns’ last week and honor their accomplishments. Nearly 50 people – including BU faculty and staff, members of the Private Industry Council (PIC) team, and our interns’ family and friends - stopped by the BU Castle to celebrate with our interns and hear their end-of-internship presentation, which included a preview on their completed book College Countdown: A Middle Schooler’s Guide to Getting Ahead.

American Psychological Association: Grace Kim received a distinguished mentor award at the American Psychological Association (APA) convention.
CLASS DISMISSED: Anthony Jack celebrated the release of his book Class Dismissed: When Colleges Ignore Inequity and Students Pay the Price on February 12th.
