EMPath 200-Year Anniversary Gala
Celebrating 200 Years of Empowering Women and Strengthening Families
Economic Mobility Pathways (EMPath) held their 200-year anniversary gala event at the Boston Center for the Arts Cyclorama on Thursday, June 6. The event helped fundraise over $400,000 for the organization and celebrated its 200-year impact on supporting women and families.
In attendance were Mary Churchill (Assoc. Dean, SPACE), Cara Mattaliano (Asst. Director, SPACE), Meagan Combs (Asst. Dean, BU Wheelock Executive Affairs), Davena Jackson (Asst. Professor), and Cindy Vincent (Communications Manager, BU DL&I).
EMPath is a Boston-based national nonprofit whose mission for 200 years has focused on transforming people’s lives by helping them move out of poverty through direct services, advocacy, research, and a global learning network. Through their economic mobility coaching approach, EMPath has aimed to establish enduring pathways to economic mobility for everyone.
“All families deserve an opportunity for a stable, prosperous future,” said EMPath President and CEO Kim Janey.
EMPath’s 200-year anniversary gala honored three Boston women, Mayor of Boston Michelle Wu; philanthropist, real estate developer, and chair of The Boston Foundation Sandy Edgerley; and award-winning entrepreneur and philanthropist Shellee Mendes, for their inspiring commitment to investing in Boston women and families.
“I am incredibly honored to accept EMPath’s EMPower Award. As someone who has experienced homelessness and has known what it means to struggle, this award stands for the strength of so many women and moms facing similar struggles,” said Shellee Mendes while receiving her award.
NBC 10 Boston’s Latoyia Edwards emceed the evening, DJ Nomadik set the backdrop for a night of dancing, and food was provided by local female chefs from restaurants like Flour Bakery & Cafe, Pagu, Stillwater, Zuzu’s Petals, Tiny Spoon, and Shy Bird.
“I salute all of the women over the 200 years and I salute the women who are part of the program now,” said EMPower Award recipient Sandy Edgerley.
